Safire Blake was never an ordinary girl. Her father, a gang leader, was killed in front of her and her brother. The image of him laying in the street covered in blood haunted her for years, it took excessive therapy sessions before she would even talk. Now her mother is remarried to a greaaat guy, he's an alcoholic and is extremely abusive. One way she uses to escape the horrors of her life is to read, one book became her safe place, The Lions Game. It became her obsession, she drew what the characters looked like in her head, and even created the Lions club at her school. On the 11th anniversary of her fathers death, Safire is forced from her home and family to run for hours in enemy gang territory with a half dead phone and a backpack full of school books.

Safire ran across a Japanese lady at what looked like a lemonade stand, but it wasn't lemonade she was giving out. Sitting on her table was a single red button written on was one word "Push". The lady told her if she did she was be taken anywhere she longed to be, any county, any time period, any book. The only catch was she might not ever come home, and if she does life will never be the same again. Safire makes a quick choice and presses it. She is taken into her fantasy life, her safe haven, the land of Elzibar, where magic runs free and mystical creatures are real. Safire makes a new life for herself, a new home, and new family, she even gains some magic of her own. She must decide to stay in her fantasy life, or return to save her family.
