This story is about a girl named Sharlette Marie Curtis, she's the least talked about or appreciated in the gang. she's Ponyboy, Sodapop, and Darry's kid sister. brought up as a greaser. tuff. but not too tomboy. she's always got this denim jacket she got for her birthday one year from Johnny Cade, a member of the gang. 
no one, NO ONE knows her like Johnny does. 
Sharlette is different. she's not that rough, unless it's a socialite bothering the gang. she gets misunderstood a lot, and gets pushed away from the gang mostly, because of her being a girl. Johnny understands that. so does Ponyboy. the others just don't want her to get hurt.
