The knife in my hand itched my palm, the blade shining bright and clean and new in the small dirty shed room under the glow of a bare bulb hanging by a single cord, shadows shifting as it swung back and forth above my head. The only noise was the satisfying sound of metal against metal, friction, sharpening my blade to perfection as I waited.
It watched me.
I bit my lip, the clipped remark demanding to know what it was looking at was caught at the tip of my tongue.
I need to be calm; I needed to wait. I needed to.
