There is one kind of pain, when needles are pierced into your skin almost on a daily basis; to be rushed to the hospital every week and to reluctantly do everything possible to keep yourself alive just a little longer. Although, a little longer will never be enough. There is another kind of pain, of having to watch all your loved ones go through your pain, helplessly. The kind of pain that is only unleashed in the middle of the night, when no one is around. Maryam Haroun could never figure which hurt more. Life was never an easy feat for anybody and most definitely not for Maryam. But the eighteen year old had long learned to find happiness even in the darkest days. Until, her happiness walked into her life in the form of a human. But human beings change, sometimes they die.. Whatever it is, they never remain the same; they fade, just like happiness.

Aya's life was never hers to control. Trapped in a marriage that left her scarred and broken, she never thought she'd escape, until the night fate took matters into its own hands. Now, as she struggles to piece together a life for herself and her daughter, Anaya, the last thing she expects is to cross paths with Eli-the doctor who once witnessed her at her weakest. Eli has his own ghosts to confront. When he sees Aya again, memories of the past resurface, along with emotions he never fully understood. Whereas Aya is guarded, wary, and unwilling to let anyone past her walls. But something about her calls to him, stirring a need to protect, to heal, and perhaps... to love. As Aya fights against the shadows of her past, can she allow herself to trust again? And can Eli prove that some wounds aren't meant to break a person-but to make them stronger?
