It is summer in the California desert and YOU TOO can be a slug! It is so beyond easy! It is at least 113 and probably above. My mom says it is 126 in Palm Springs. I live in Indio and it is usually 2 degrees above that. The slugs with fur ( cats ) and the slug with skin ( their human ) are spending our summer doing what a lot of people do in the summer if they live in the DESERT. No, I do not want to get up and actually MAKE something to ear. I haven't made chocolate chip cookies in a LONG time. The oven? It is an ornament. Almost the same thing can be said about the stove top. Toss it in a bowl, pour milk over it. Wash some fruit ( this takes ambition ). DONE. Furry slugs look at me and they are not happy. I wake at 8. That is pm not am. 2 hours later I am back for a nap. It is the end of July and it is THE DESERT. It is so hot the devil went back to hell to cool off ( hotter than hell is the expression that explains this ). The air conditioner is blasting. I have fans. I have ice. It sits in little cartons in front of the fan. One furry slug has parked his body there. The other hides under a table where he can get the blast of air from the ac. I don't want to clean house. The house is not going anywhere. It is just collecting new dust bunnies. They would probably be slugs too. I try to read. Sometimes I do but sometimes I put down the book and take a nap. Sometimes I write but sometimes I put down my writings and take a nap. The ginger slug with fur will nap beside me, the furrier monkey fave slug lies down beside the bed. We have no ambition to do much of anything. Sleep is good. Lying like a slug is good. I am thankful and say a little prayer of thank you to God for my situation in life. It could be worse. I might live in a northern state and have to about snow ( though not in July ). How to be a slummer slug? Wake when it is dark. Don't cook anything if it can be avoided. Stretch out. Laze in a chair. Drink lots of water. Stretch out. Take a nap. Slugfest!

It's the last year of high school, and everything has changed . . . ***** After a summer spent in the Philippines, Lara Dela Cruz is eager to start her senior year and, most importantly, reunite with her three besties. But what she did not expect was to show up on the first day of school to all three of her friends now in relationships. Fighting for their attention, catching some new and confusing feelings for long-time frenemy James, and wading through the pressures of post-high-school plans all have Lara reeling. And to make matters worse, Lara's beautiful and untrustworthy cousin conveniently appears and wiggles her way right between her and James' budding relationship. Feeling like a third wheel in more ways than one, Lara must learn to accept that change is inevitable, love is complicated, and being the odd one out is sometimes where inner power is found.
