A 16 year old girl's world is turned upside down when her Egyptian home is destroyed in the protests and she is taken away to a camp. Upon learning about her parent's death, Kariza is forced to thrust her trust and sibling's safety into the hands of an American journalist, and fly to America to start a new life.

She ends up knocking on the first door she can find in a small residential area. Little does she know that when she meets the person at the door, her life is permanently changed and she finds the true meaning of 'family'.
