I put the grocery bags down after coming inside the house, setting my keys on the counter and placing the bags on the table, putting the stuff away, until I heard a voice.
"FATIMA, FATIMA!" Mama was calling me, hm I wonder what for and why did she sound excited as well?
"Yes mama? Ana in the kitchen Mama." She came in holding two papers.
"We're going! We're going to Jerusalem, to see your cousin get married!" That's when my whole world crashes down.
I'm going to Jerusalem ...that means I have to see my cousin Samer, whom I've avoided for 5 years, since I was 16. Ya Allah help me through this. I even remember when I left Amman 5 years ago, and let's just say that it didn't end well between a 16 year old and a 21 year old.

Walking in the rain didn't sound like a bad idea. Naima didn't want to sit in a car alone with him.
As her luck was rare, the thunder clapped and she found herself racing into a practical stranger's car.
That wasn't the plan.
Naima looked at him weirdly. "Fine. . .but don't try anything funny."
"You have my word. I won't try anything. . . funny, Habiba."
She could have voiced her disapproval in his insistent need to call her Habiba. But there were much more bigger problems.
