Constantly vying for her famed mother's attention, Charlotte couldn't imagine a life more dull or lonely and is convinced her brother Luc is the only person who cares for her. But with war threatening the safety of her hometown Paris, Charlotte is devastated when her parents send her to England until the war is over.

Charlotte is first distraught without Luc and furious with her parents for sending her away. But as she settles into life in London, Charlotte begins to realize she has something in common with her mother: her unmistakable love for the starlit world of theatre...and a boy who is completely wrong for her. Although on the surface England appears to perfect, Charlotte realizes that war is determined to get in the way of everyone's happiness, including her own.
