Thirteen-year-old Max had just moved to a new town. Things seemed normal at first, until he found himself caught in a conspiracy that could change his life forever.

He was weightless, a wingless bird, a pebble.

His life flashed before his eyes. His tears drifted upward like soft bubbles.

His heart throbbed like a beating hammer.

The mist swirled around him, drenching him from head to toe.

Free fall.

He was reaching the pool at the end.

The ink blot of the pool was widening by the second.

Then the pebble in his hand glowed.

And disintegrated into sand.

The glowing blue sand curled around his fingers, and gently lifted itself from his grasp.

He watched in awe as the sand began twisting around him, forming a giant cocoon.

Then there was a flash.

A blinding flash.

And Max disappeared.

Going Your Own Way, but with Magic

24 parts Complete

Being 16 sucks. Being 16 and running away after you burn down a library with flames you shoot from your hands, trying to carve out a place in the world for yourself while understanding this strange curse double sucks. Getting interrupted from figuring out magic completely on your own by an evil witch with plans to take over the world by doing *extremely* gross things to dead bodies triple sucks. Add in a pet mouse, a hot boy who shows up halfway through and amounts of emotional suppression never before known to mankind and you get a rough approximation of Max's life.
