From the outside, it might seem like the city of London was under the complete control of the Prime Minister, of the Government and the politicians. The city so old and beautiful with its dark winding streets, old looming buildings and the history that filled every gap, was ruled by a democracy. But that was not the truth, but merely a façade. The officials, the police forces and ministers and politicians were bound in a tight web, controlled meticulously, like marionettes, being played by a puppeteer. Behind them in the shadows, pulling the strings and making them dance to the tact of their music: the seven kings and the clans that writhed in the dark, fighting an endless war for power. So when they learned of strays, humans that were actually born with extraordinary powers and capabilities, they went wild, seeing an advantage against the others. A mass hunting for rainbow eyes and hair started, they searched for people with sharper teeth and split tongues, for the people with violet eyes and green hair, the people who stuck out of a crowd. And then the black markets caught on, the smugglers and creepers who dealt with any dark wish a person could think of. Sensing a profitable business, the stray hunting spread, and smugglers would kidnap strays, adults and even children and babies, selling them at auctions for thousands, millions of pounds, depending on the power the stray possessed. And so, we became endangered, hunted and we started to live in constant fear. Red is a thief, a criminal and a stray. How many disadvantages can one person have? She starts to slip into the world of the Seven Kings by doing jobs for them. Little does she know that she will catch the attention of the last King, the most reclusive and said to be the most powerful. The Seventh King, King of the night and in control of Londons central territories. How will she escape his claws, and does she even want to? Not that he would let her, seeing as she holds the greatest secret of all.

Fear strikes the hearts. Doubt enters the minds and trust is the one thing they need but can't find. Harry hears voices. A voice coming from the walls, whispering words that shouldn't be spoken. Something has been set loose. Something that should've never entered the grounds in the first place. Something that shouldn't even exist. People get suspicious. Is Harry to blame? Artemis wants to help him clear his name, but she soon finds her mind preoccupied with her own problems. Old doubts have resurfaced after her family gets torn apart. Parts of her history are revealed. Everyone has been lying to her and Artemis starts doubting everything she knew until now. Because being yourself is hard when you don't know who you are. The dream was the beginning. The mark was the clue. And the woman in the mirror was the answer. ~~~ The woman in the mirror is the second book in the Artemis Lupin series. Read 'The girl with golden hair' first. She was used to investigating mysteries on her own. People were untrustworthy. They lied. They tried to change the past. But the past couldn't be changed. Her own past was complicated. Especially because she wasn't the one hiding it, it was kept from her. For a good reason, they thought. The dream was her only lead. The only way to figure it all out. The dream was simply the end of a curse and the beginning of a nightmare. Because some secrets are better kept secret. The web of lies and deceit only got more complicated. Familymembers talked out of turn. The wise man was far too interested and the dark saw the truth in her eyes. Because her dream was simply the story. The story of betrayal, friendship but mostly death. But the thing that could ruin it all, was the very thing they couldn't change. It was the only truth in the past of lies. Her grey eyes and his black blood. ~completed on 29 August 2017~ (*Disclaimer* all rights go to J.K. Rowling. You can read this without having read the book.)
