This is a journal. Whilst i was out in Africa for 25 days, i had written every night of all the activities I and my fellow classmates had done during that day. We traveled out there to help with our sister school, Mary and Paul's orphanage, which involved; building, painting and cleaning with added extras such as becoming closer with the students and teachers out there and making new friends. During these past two years, me and my team have been raising money and collecting donations which will then be given and used towards their school. Richard Lander School has been doing this for 7 years now, sending groups ages 14 to 15 each year to help improve the quality of the school which keeps on progressing each year. Towards the end of the trip, we were lucky enough to travel to a safari lodge and stay there for three nights whilst going on a safari each day to explore the wide range of wildlife that lives in Africa. after going on this trip in July, i can safely say that this has been one of the best experiences of my life so far and a complete eye opener to the differences between how we live and how they live. If you want to find out about my trip, read this and hopefully you get to experience the emotions i felt during this trip. How we made it in South Africa
I invite you to share in our journey. I started writing this book 13 May 2008 It takes you through our whole experience of rising up and prospering in South Africa - even under a racist ANC government. I've written this book as an inspiration, that even in the face of huge adversity, you can come out on the other side and make it. However, my wish for you is not to only "make it" - but live your best life. I invite you to come on this journey with us. It was sometimes an emotional rollercoaster with many trials and tribulations, but the end result was worth it. This book is very special and unique in the sense that it was started and written while I was at the lowest point in my life with no salvation in sight... It's wasn't written in hindsight or after the fact. It started with hope, a dream, a promise. You will see when you start going through these pages - If I could make it, surely you can. Bad Ambassadors
In 1995, when I was eighteen years old, I began a gap year overseas. My experiences in Egypt were character-building to say the least, and I have many fond memories of attempted muggings, freight hopping, jumping off moving buses, being stranded in the Sahara Desert and narrowly avoiding molestation at the hands of a randy Arab − good times indeed! I have supplemented the writing with primary sources, particularly letter extracts and photographs, and with poems in places, rather like the pharaonic statue that has been lying in pieces for centuries, which is finally restored with resins and prostheses to a semblance of its former glory. I began this undertaking in 2004 when the details were quite distinct in my mind, but it was sidelined within a year in favour of other projects. Now, over twenty years from the events, it is even more of a challenge to recall them accurately. Thankfully, the accounts written then and the letters have served as a memory bridge, but it should be said that even the letters themselves fall short in providing a complete picture of my experiences. Since they were written to my mother, there was always an element of self-censorship about them: omissions of our wayward antics, the alarming predicaments that we found ourselves in or true feelings. Some of these have been revealed in what follows but behind a poetic veil. Therefore, this work is a confession of sorts. Mostly, however, it is an attempt to capture the cultural landscape of the time and the adventures we had in the hope that it may inspire others to travel overseas. I have censored a couple of chapters, in accordance with Wattpad's guidelines on mature content, and placed them in Bad Ambassadors: Censored Chapters. This is my recollection of events, but I acknowledge that others may remember them differently, and I intend no harm. I have changed some names and pixelated some faces in order to respect these people's privacies. I dedicate this to all of my Egyptian friends.Complete
My Backpacking Memoirs
In 2017 I embarked on a three month backpacking trip around Europe. Motivated by the many accounts of travel from within religion, I went to learn. But what I experienced was not what I was expecting. This was my first time leaving the UK since I was a child and my expectations of travel and Europe were wildly out of touch. I met more people in these three months than I had in the previous ten years and had many new experiences. I was naive and many of the people I met on my travels could tell just how naive I was. Overland by bus, train and ferry through 17 countries: England, Scotland, France, Belgium, Netherlands, Germany, Czech Republic, Poland, Slovakia, Austria, Hungary, Romania, Bulgaria, Greece, Italy and Switzerland. To 35 locations: Liverpool, Manchester, Glasgow, Edinburgh, Paris, Brussels, Antwerp, Ghent, Bruges, Amsterdam, Berlin, Dresden, Leipzig, Frankfurt, Prague, Krakow, Brno, Bratislava, Vienna, Budapest, Timisoara, Sibiu, Brasov, Bucharest, Sofia, Thessaloniki, Litochoro, Athens, Delphi, Naples, Rome, Venice, Milan and Lugano. It is an account of backpacking around Europe, both the best and worst of European backpacking hostels. Long bus journeys, hitch hiking and plenty of walking. I'm not proud of my behaviour or the events surrounding this three month period of my life, but I am proud to have forced myself to do it. I hope that my story will reach people who are in similar positions to what I found myself and to plant the seed of travel as a solution to those problems. Sometimes running away is the solution. It has also been several years since my backpacking trip and I find myself constantly trying to piece my memories together. Not always knowing what city or even country a memory occurred. I feel like my memories are deteriorating so I decided to document them before fall apart completely. I'm not a writer at all and I have tried to be as honest as possible, to my own downfall. I run to my house and lock myself in my bathroom. I don't bother closing the front door cause I don't care if people come in to kill me. I grab my razor and cut deep cuts into my arm and wrists falling into a pool of my own blood. • • • Evangeline has a great life. Friends? Check! Good grades? Check! Loving family? Check! Tuesday, 6 October 2015 For Amali, Christmas 2015 This story began in the September school holidays 2015, when Amali was staying with me and had trouble getting to sleep at night. After trying all of the old remedies I could think of, counting sheep, relaxation, deep breathing, I came up with an idea I thought may help her. I suggested that we both think of a story that night while we were trying to go to sleep. I sometimes have problems getting to sleep as well, and I've used this in one form or another at times with some success. So, when she asked me "what sort of story?" I searched around in my head for a story theme that would interest Amali. What I then came up with was "how about .....The girl who would... (thinking hard).....wear... (digging around in my head for a subject) and then the word "Green" came. We had our title. Next day, I asked Amali if this had worked, had she thought of a story. She said it had a bit, and she told me hers. Can you remember your story Amali? That night she wanted mine. Thinking this would be a one off, one night venture, I started with the very bare bones of the story that follows. Little did I realise at the time, that Amali would want another chapter every night! From then on, until she went home after the holidays, I struggled through telling the story, coming up with some events as I went, and giving myself a few sleepless nights trying to come up with something for the next night. The story was left, when Amali returned home and to school, somewhere near where Essie meets her grandmother. Amali has asked me a couple of times to continue, but at the time, I got stuck with where to go next. So here I the finished story hope you enjoy!Complete
AFTER HIGH SCHOOL
I just graduated high school and instead of celebrating it with my friends. I choose to go on a bus for an hour's ride to my sister's to celebrate my graduation with her and her friends. What I didn't expect in our celebration though was experiencing my first one-night stand with one of her friends. Her most feared friend, Her Alpha male friend, Her rich classy friend in her friend group. However, it didn't stop from there because the one-night stand led to a whole amazing unexpectedly different summer break from what I had in mind while coming to my sister's. Afterwards, where I started thinking that that was it, where I was expressing my gratitude to Aaron Hernandez for blessing me with the summer break of my whole being that I was going to cherish forever in my life. Listen, just between me and you one day I would have liked to share it with my grandkids but that was my secret to keep. Except before I know it, even miles far away from where it happened. The little secret that was meant for my grandkids only got blown in my face and suddenly it was the world's and everyone's business just like that. Blowing away with every chance, every opportunity, and everything my life hung up on, leaving me in a whole new area of life at only nineteen.
