A team of surveyors mapping a wild corner of California get trapped in a river and is saved by an odd family, which is revealed to be mythical animals. The surveyors are forced to help restore a dammed valley where the creatures used to live to repay their debt, and soon utter chaos prevails as their boss shows up, old family members are discovered, and an opposing side joins the scene.
