I didn't know what to do. I was frozen, my arms and hands limp on my lap. My eyes threatening to roll back into my head. I couldn't process what was going on in the least bit. Swirls of red and black and a flash of blue filled my mind making it impossible to focus on anything else. My first instinct was to scream but even then I couldn't open my mouth. So, I sat there. I sat there in a pool of blood and glass. To a certain extent, I couldn't breathe. I'm sure if I tried I could inhale the small amount of oxygen remaining in the closed space that was once a car, but keeping myself alive was the last thing I wanted to think about. "forever and after" is a short story about Melana, a nineteen year old girl that has to cope with tragedy.
