My short story for the CreatureFeature contest
Nikki believes someone or something watches her at night and only appears where it's dark. Because of that she never sleeps with the lights off.
One day Courtney, Nikki's enemy, invites her and her friend, Amber, to a party. This leaves them cautious since Courtney has never been remotely nice to them before. When they arrive at the party everything seems normal, however once 12:00 hits people start to die. It all starts with the flashing of the lights then one more is gone. Who is doing this? Is Courtney behind this or is there something more?

Missing
Jenna, a young filmmaker, arrives at an abandoned warehouse to scout a location for her project, feeling a growing sense of unease. After a quick call with her co-worker, she begins to explore the eerie, empty space. As Jenna ventures deeper, her discomfort only increases, but she presses on, determined to capture the perfect shot. Just as she's setting up her equipment, the floor beneath her shifts and gives way, drawing her into a strange, shadowy place. She finds herself in an endless maze of yellow walls and flickering lights, with no clear way out. Back in the warehouse, her phone rings unanswered, her co-worker's name flashing in the empty room. Haunted in the Night
It came in the night, always at night, never heard, never sighted, but it haunted, haunted in the night. It was dark, it was cold, it was evil, it hid in the shadows, watching, waiting, taunting, and haunting. It brought horror, it brought nightmares but it left grief, it left despair, it stole all hope, it stole all happiness until there was nothing, nothing but madness and sadness. Claire Handerson was only 10 years old when her parents went missing in the night, and their not the only ones, now 14 years later when her godmother goes missing she finds herself having to go back to her hometown where it all happened, working to find out what or who did it, but it's not as easy as just solving a mystery case, there will be feelings, there will be love, there will be suspicion, there will be heartache, can Claire solve who has snatched all these people including her loved ones or will she become lost to the madness it leaves in its wake. Nance and her twin brothers Lane and John along with their father desperately attempt to keep the floodlights running as they pray for dawn's arrival. A coming fog of darkness led by The Good Man and his Takers threatens to snuff out their light in the night. The parts are short with most around 1,000 words (except for the first part which is 2,000ish words.) I had a nightmare one night and tried to write down what it was about. Unfortunately when I woke up in the morning all I had written was "The Takers are in the backyard." The city is a graveyard of neon lights and endless nights. Nero knows it. He feels it in his bones. Nothing was supposed to happen on the night of the lunar eclipse. Just another underground gig in an abandoned church, another cigarette burning between his fingers, another cheap vodka shot burning down his throat. But then he saw her. Something that shouldn't have been there. Something that was watching him before he even knew it existed. Something that stayed with him even after the music stopped. Since that night, the shadows started calling his name. Since that night, Sebastián was closer than ever. Since that night, she started showing up in his dreams. Nero's reality is starting to crack apart. His reflection doesn't always match his movements. His body doesn't always feel like his own. The city lights flicker like someone's turning the world off, piece by piece. And in the background, a voice whispers: "Don't close your eyes. Don't stop looking." Because the moment you do...
