The war between the SeaWings and MudWings has been going on for years with no sign of relenting, but in the Sky kingdom it seems far away. Citrine is a trusted royal guard, high up in rank and good friend of the Princess, Dawn.
But this fragile peace is shattered when a diplomatic visitor from the Rain Kingdom runs away with important confidential information, and Citrine is plunged into the war when she is sent off with a small flight of dragons to hunt her down.
When a hurricane blows her off course and she gets separated from the other guards, Citrine teams up with a few unexpected and unwanted new tagalongs and resumes her hunt for the runaway. But the longer she searches, the more certain she becomes that something isn't right. And the deeper she's drawn into the mystery of the RainWing, the more she realizes that loyalty can either make you invincible or be your undoing.
