» The last time any of them saw her alive was the Fourth of July. She was wearing an white sundress that hung loosely on her body. Airy gasps of joy filled the air. She swung on his arm, barely holding on to the sparkling tiara atop of her head. Her beautiful smile had captured the heart of hundreds. The roar of the crowd had begun after the coronation dance. She drew a sharp breath and let go of her partner's hand. He was no longer of use to her. "I promise to -" she swore to be the best the strawberry queen, they would ever live to see. She swung around the room, flinging herself into the arms of any man or boy that dared to catch her. Everyone wanted to be her last dance partner. Yet it was Arthur Simmons; a lanky, pimply boy who had to shove his squared-glasses back up his nose, each time he glanced at his two left feet. As the crown princess, Gabrielle's life was never meant to be easy, yet the death of her father and an assassination attempt were far from what she expected. Now, forced to leave the only life she had ever know, she runs away with the help of Cedric, her closest friend and a dragon. However, her journey has just begun and there is much more blood and tears to be spilled. ~A NOT SO HAPPY EVER AFTER~ "And they lived happily ever after..." Gabrielle finished with a smile and set the book down. She loved happy endings, it made her feel so hopeful of her own life and how it would turn for the better. Her friend, on the other hand, didn't seem to share her opinions. "Do all these books have to finish the same way?" Cedric complained, leaning his head on the backrest of his armchair in exasperation. "It's starting to get old." "Well, what would you like? The princess to remain asleep? The beast to kill the old man? The thieves to escape?" she asked him curiously. She had never found happy endings to be boring, only, well... happy. "I mean, it would be nice for the dragon to win for once," he smirked mischievously, revealing one of his elongated fangs. His golden eyes flashed with magic for a second and a tiny tendril of smoke made its way from between his lips.
