Ashley had an amazing life. She had lots of friends, a great boyfriend, and her life was on track. She wasn't the most popular, but she didn't care about that. She just didn't want to be at the very bottom. Her life was perfect until an accident that left Ashley deaf. She wants her life to be the same, so she still goes back to school. All of her friends are gone except for two. Her boyfriend dumps her. She feels as if her life has gone to crap. So, she decides to stop talking. Her family does not know what to do, and neither do her friends. They try to get her to talk constantly, through her hands of course, but she refuses to. Not even writing on paper.

My name is Rosalyn, I've never breathed a word. Silence is easy when all you can give are ASL signs and not many people understand them. I'm just like everyone else. I have a celebrity crush. I have a favorite book (It's Lock and Key by Sarah Dessen). I have a favorite color (It's a silvery blue). I have a story to tell just like you. I get made fun of because I can't speak. People yell at me thinking that because I'm mute I'm also deaf. This is my silent melody, the song of my soul.
