Katie Gangi has Schizophrenia. She has her family and her best friend Jem, and that's pretty much it. Oh, and of course there's her psychiatrist Jane. Quentin Blake is your typical high school's bad boy. Oh, you know what I mean: he's got a small group of close friends, lacks feeling (so he makes people think), sucks at anything school (meanwhile he's just pretending to be dumb), and has a criminal record (that is completely explainable, if people would ever stop to listen), which people usually frown upon. Katie likes to keep her life as simple as possible. But then she stops taking her meds. Now she's got some hallucination kid following her around, telling her that someone's out to kill her, and of course Quentin Blake decides to take an interest in her after an unfortunate meeting. To make things even worse, she's got two Quentins: Real Quentin and Hallucination Quentin, and she just can't seem to be able to tell them apart.

Suddenly perfection isn't her only option. ***** Ella Volkov is a gifted music student, but she's depressed and starting to crack under the pressure of high school. Her overbearing father won't even let her choose what instrument she plays. Then she finds herself alone at a party with Ren, her best friend's crush. She'd always thought he was rude, but after that night he's all Ella can think about. Now she's trapped. If Ella dates Ren, it will ruin her friendship with Jenny. But if she stays true to Jenny, she's losing the one person who can see past her scars. It's up to Ella to decide if she will forge her own path, or stay in the "perfect" box designed for her...
