plot; farkle minkus, a genius who loves school and tests has to work with a new partner on a math project in order to pass the ninth grade. he does not mind, but the thing is his partner is the exact opposite of him. her name is maya hart, she despises school and rebels against everything that she isn't fond of. farkle and maya try and bond over stupid, silly stuff but nothing can click their "friendship" until one day maya tells farkle a little bit about herself and he remembers the most important thing ever!
