Days turn into weeks, weeks turn into months. and months turn into years. It seemed like it had been forever since she was allowed to go outside. Since she tasted fresh air. Since she touched soft grass. When am I allowed to go out? When will I be rewarded with my freedom? Serenity Black, a war prisoner, was captured when she was just seven years old. Even so, her memories were nothing if not vivid. She remembered how her mother used to laugh, how her brother loved his cards, and how the air tasted, and how soft the grass was. Now seventeen, Serenity begins to lose hope. Until one day, a mysterious stranger who seems mute is locked in a cell with her. "Who is he? How did he get captured?" The answers to those questions are as much of a mystery as he is. What awaits Serenity in the future? And how is it connected with the boy who never speaks? Excerpt His eyes.. They were so dark, and so sad. How many tragedies has he witnessed? I wonder how he got here and why they took him in. They haven't captured anyone for so long. I was beginning to think that perhaps this boy meant so much more to them than I could ever fathom. Slowly, I bring my hand up to softly move his long hair out of his eyes. His breath hitched and my heart raced. No, i thought. this boy means so much more to me than he does to them. For the longest time, I never imagined I would have the courage to try and escape, but something clicked in my head at this moment and I realized, finally, that I needed to be free again. I took a deep breath. "We're getting out of here. Come on."

"But just look at the world around you, Love. There's messes everywhere with unclear answers. Don't give up yet." She told me gently. "I know, but I just wish that this was less confusing." "Well, things are gonna get confusing after a while, but you can't just stop trying. You've got to search harder for the answer; maybe it's somewhere you haven't looked yet. Someday you'll trip over a rock that's harder than this, and bandaids won't just stare you in the face. You won't know what to do. So prepare yourself for that day, baby." "I'm gonna trip over a rock?" I asked, eyes widening with worry. She shook her head, the bubbly symphony of her laughs echoing in the room. "No. I mean you're going to be in trouble one day and you won't know how to get out of it. Like this, but tougher." "You mean I'll have to go through this again? But even harder? Ugh, I won't make it." I sighed heavily. "No. I know you will. It just won't be so black and white. It'll be....in between the two." "So it'll be just grey?" She revealed her big, beautiful smile to me as if I had understood all that is right and wrong in the world. Kissing the top of my head, she whispered, "Exactly." {full synopsis inside} Rankings- #16 in juveniles #94 in newkid #241 in multimedia FULLY EDITED VERSION NOW AVAILABLE ON AMAZON KINDLE!!
