"Hi." Out of reflex I jumped up onto my feet upon hearing the strange voice right next to me. My heart pounding in my ears and breath unsteady I stared wide eyed at the girl in front of me.
It was her. From the previous night. She was smiling at me.
"My name is Anna-Lee Jenkins but you can call me Lee." She extended her hand.
She spoke. To me. Still smiling. Slightly translucent hand still extended. I took three breaths trying to calm myself.
"Uh...I..." I stammered over my words. My brain had trouble registering that this, er, spirit had actually said words to me. Only when I stepped backwards and onto my cigarette did I realize that I had dropped it.
Her face fell after a while, as if she felt rejected about my not greeting her back. I instantly felt a pang of guilt in my chest at her dejected expression.
"Uh hi." I said after another set of steady breaths. Her face lit up.
"You are?" She casually insisted. I looked her up and down trying to figure out if I had gone mad. I guess my ability has finally reached second base and I am officially qualified for an asylum. She wore the same casual attire she did last night. Everything except her demeanor seemed the same.
She had a slight smile, almost smug look on her face. She seemed to be waiting for a reply.
"Roan." I finally said. Her smile widened.
"Roan..." She repeated as if trying out the feel of a new shirt. "I like it." She decided.
