With the gift of site Tess can see the dead. She sees her dead Grandmother the most.
A few weeks after her Grandmothers death she literally falls into the underworld. Humans are practically forbidden to enter but she learns her way around and makes friends with some of the people down there before she gets caught. She finds herself mixed in the different degrees without knowing the significance of each.
The head person of the underworld decides that Tess and all humans show be banished, after getting into a fight with someone in the 6th Degree and winning , therefore she is kicked out. The underworld is now blocked off to all humans. Although it was impossible for humans to enter before.
But what no one knows is that Tess isn't human she is so much more. When Tess sneaks back in with her brother Mason, the truth is discovered and she challenges that head of the underworld. The real question is if Tess and Mason aren't human, then what are they?
