This is a story I had to write for my 10th grade English class. I really like it so I thought I would share it! We had read a book called Hiroshima. It was about the atomic bomb. We had to write a story about 'What if a hydrogen bomb hit Patrick Air Force Base?' It takes you through my day and all the things I witnessed through the process of getting out of the bad area. Why do bad things happen to good people? A question that his boy is making himself more then ever this days. From the beginning we see a 17 year old boy, struggling to finish high School, filled up with insecurities, mental health issues, a toxic family home, and impossible standards to live up to. He has learn to not only hate his life, but to want finish it off as fast as possible. Close to finally graduating high school his English teacher, Mr Steve, assigns the class a special progect. "To be able to see life through different eyes, and write about it." For this, Mr Steve gets his class to assist a hospital 3 times a week, and assigns each student, with a patient. This is the moment where this boy meets Royal, a cancer sick 17 year old girl, that has lived in a hospital her hole life, but still finds beauty and meaning in it. Through out the report the boy gets more and more involved in Royal's life, spending unfortunately moments together. But through out the journey he asks himself more and more. If we stayed there any longer, we would have died. Earth was no longer our home, but instead a barren waste land from which we had to escape.
