As I was writing The Unforeseen I had an original ending planned that ended up changing.  This short story is that ending that I didn't end up using. I thought you would like to read it. It start at Chapter 38 titled Duel of fates.

"I wanted to join you," Rey said, tears dripping from her face. "Then why didn't you?" Menace crept from Kylo Ren's voice as he turned to make deathly eye contact with her. "You know why!" "Enlighten me," he threatened, though it sounded like a plea. "It wasn't our time, Ben, you know that." Rey's voice shook a little. "When is our time?" Kylo's voice became lighter. "You already know the answer to that," she sniffled. *** The Force knew Rey was to be in Kylo Ren's life just as Kylo was to be in Rey's. However, both individuals prayed and hoped for very different outcomes. Rey wanted nothing more than to bring Kylo Ren back to the Light. In this story, it takes place after Episode VII. Rey is currently trying to learn the ways of the Force. Many questions are constantly on her mind, "who is she? What are her abilities? Who is she to Kylo Ren?" Inside of him there is a war going on. Kylo Ren cannot sleep. Supreme leader Snoke has officially asked for him and Ren begins his journey Into the eternal power of the dark side.

The night Kylo Ren was born, he destroyed half of the Jedi Knights training under Luke Skywalker. The other half he gave a tantalizing offer: join him and live, or die alongside their brethren. For many of them the choice was easy: Salvation. Over the years those who joined him died off: they tried to over throw him or showed a weakness that was exploited. All except Serena. She fell under Kylo's wing and latched on. They grew together, gained power together, fought side by side as equals, and friends. Serena was his confidant, she was the whisper in his ear. For that reason, she was even more terrorizing than Kylo Ren himself. She stayed with him despite all he had done- all that he had made her do. She knew nothing else, only him, only the First Order. Until she met the Resistance's Best Pilot, and found a way out.
