As I was writing The Unforeseen I had an original ending planned that ended up changing. This short story is that ending that I didn't end up using. I thought you would like to read it. It start at Chapter 38 titled Duel of fates.

Star Wars Episode IX: Duel of the Fates
(AU) Luke is gone. Kylo Ren is the new Supreme Leader. The Resistance is all but decimated. Now, all responsibility falls on Rey to balance the Force and bring an end to this war. But as a relatively untrained Jedi, she will not be able to find balance in the Force when she cannot find balance within herself. With whispers of Palpatine's return, the Dark side has been growing stronger and stronger every day. Will she be able to defeat them or will the pull to the Dark be enough to turn her and cause a different ending to the war? *This is an alternative universe that takes place just before/during the events of the Rise of Skywalker. There will be some things that could be similar to the film, but I will be changing quite a bit. There are many items and powers that exist in TROS that I personally do not feel make sense, so they will be omitted (The dagger, lightspeed skipping, Anakin's saber, to name a few). Star Wars: Duel of the Fates
This is my version of the third chapter of the new Star Wars trilogy. I will not change anything that happened in either Force Awakens or Last Jedi. I will uphold the restrictions that resulted from the sad death of Carrie Fisher and will only draw from the deleted scenes or audio from pre-existing Star Wars movies and properties. Whilst I appreciated what Last Jedi was trying to do, I did not actually like it. However, I have no intention of undoing any of the main plot points or revelations that were in it. E.g. Rey will certainly not be a Palpatine. The story will not contain any Reylo. I know, I know: I love it too, but it was really weird seeing it as canon in the Rise of Skywalker. Do not expect it here. I am a big Star Wars fan and will be adding things from as wide a field as possible. All planets will be based on actual places mentioned or visited in the various movies and tv shows.
