Secrets. Are they lies, or are they there to protect the ones we love?
Mackenzie Collins is a girl born and raised in the small seaside town of Brookton. She keeps to herself, not willing to let anyone get too close. Why does she refrain from making friends? The answer is simple. She has a secret. A secret that no one should ever have to know. A secret that silently breaks her apart on the inside, every time she thinks about it.
Roman Evans is a boy born and raised in the city. He is stubborn and will never take no for an answer. When he moves to the town of Brookton he tries hard to make a new name for himself, but life has chosen a different path for him. He too has realized that life can be cruel and unforgiving.
Mackenzie and Roman are two different people with two different backgrounds. What happens when an ordinary walk on the beach brings them together? Will they be each others' lifelines, or will fate intervene once again?

I was frozen to my spot, watching his slightly darkened eyes roam my body and I couldn't help the embarrassment that suddenly coursed through me. So much can be seen in yourself from your own pair of eyes, things that others don't seem to see. Do you know why that is? That's because no one knows you better than you know yourself. A pair of eyes could seem so kind, warm and innocent to the world, but only yourself could know the true darkness behind them. There's one person in this world who knows exactly what I'm talking about. He knows the infuriating, angering feeling of the painful suffering he experiences when his own eyes meet his reflection's. Deadly, severe, menacing: is what he sees. Everyone who looks into them simply see a bright pair of ocean eyes. Blue. That's all they see. But only himself knows he's drowning in the tidal waves of their deep ocean. And no one cares enough to notice, to help, or to save. Until her. She used to think fire was more murderous than ice. Little did she know, that would all change at first glance. She saw the eyes, she noticed their blue, she stared for a second too long, and now she knows that there's no going back. And she can't stand it. She gets caught up in this story as well. They agree to see passed each others differences and unravel the mystery about the girl, named Dawn.
