Xenaid Ellipto is one of the many cases to enter Wellingtons Sanitarium. The people that enter aren't necessarily unstable, but they are considered not human like. Each patient has a unique "diagnosis" rather it be super strength, or off the charts intelligence, they are above human abilities. For just being different they have been institutionalized.
