Ten years ago, the Kuran family had two daughters, twins. One was a full blooded pureblood vampire while the other one was a full blooded human. Yumeko Kuran is the only human in her family, but because of this, she was hidden in the shadows of her older twin sister, Yuki Kuran.
On the night Rido Kuran attacks the Kuran Manor, Yumeko's and Yuki's memories are sealed away. Yuki in turn being transformed into a human for her safety. Adopted by Kaien Cross, the two sisters start a relatively happy life outside vampire society.
