Adrenaline and panic-struck anticipation shot through Dan like a bullet as he was surrounded by a hoard of flesh-eating, cannibalistic freaks. He was trapped in an ominously vacant area in the forest, his only defence a half-beaten axe and his wits. At least twenty zombies were closing in on him, snarling lowly and limping at an imperceptible pace. In his last attempts to try and get out alive, he called out "HELP!" at the top of his lungs, backing up as much as he physically could until his luck faded, his back meeting a scabrous brick wall behind him. They came closer and closer as he tightly shut his eyes. He thought, if he couldn't see them, they wouldn't be real. That all of this was just a horrific nightmare, and he would wake up soon to a normal day, with no terror or loneliness. He was wrong. He could still hear their heavy footsteps and hungry growls. This was the end for him...or so he thought...

Dan had been alone throughout four months of a surreal, chaotic zombie apocalypse. On one fateful day it seemed as if everything was against him. Until a lone survivor found him, and changed his world completely.

What would you do if one second you were struggling to survive with your friends and mother in tow, and then you wake up to find yourself with a group of strangers the next - all during the country's takeover of blood-thirsty zeds? Megan couldn't believe her eyes. Her brain was muddled with confusion she couldn't get rid of, no matter how many times those strangers reassured her and explained what happened. But she had to accept it, even though it didn't make any sense to her. Megan had been with her mother every step of the way since everything turned to chaos, beginning just a year before, and now she was nowhere to be seen. And on top of that, she had the zeds to deal with. Ghastly creatures that used to be human, carrying a virus that's spread through a constant hunger for flesh from the host, spreading through bites and scratches. It didn't exactly make it easy to prevent getting infected. Things could have been worse, though, Megan thought. She could've been left all alone to ponder over her thoughts and fear over the future. It'll only be within the time spent with the new group will she find out that everything's not as happy and welcoming as it had seemed. These people had a few secrets of their own, including the real reason they took Megan in. She would soon find out just how far people would go to ensure their own survival. -------------- Please check out my first finished novel. 10 parts Complete

~~ CHAPTER ONE IS PRETTY HAPPY AND CAN BE READ AS A ONESHOT ~~ Dan Howell lived in New York City when he was twelve. And at twelve years old, a giant cat he called Suki lived with him. But he wasn't sure if Suki was real because of two things. One, she was about six feet tall. And two, nobody but Dan could see her. Fast forward to the age of sixteen. Dan still thinks that maybe he's slightly crazy. He's also slightly annoyed, because Suki has escaped the house and is roaming wild through the streets of New York. He breaks out of his family's apartment to go searching for her, and meets a boy called Phil Lester; who can not only see Dan's cat, but has a cat of his own. They move in together as adults, and live a harmonious life. Dan thinks everything is perfect, but he doesn't know that Phil's mental health has taken a turn for the worse. Phil has begun cutting himself, the only release from the mental illness going on inside his head. -~-~-~-~-~- TRIGGER WARNING: talk of self-harm and actual self-harm from second chapter on. CHAPTER ONE CAN BE READ AS A STAND-ALONE. Also, I personally do not ship phan, so no phan in this story. :( Sorry.
