Charlotte Randall is a tall brunette from Detroit. She moved to New York to fulfill her dreams of acting on Broadway. In the meantime, she works as a barista at a small café called The Roasted Bean. Enter Casper Malkovich. He's cold, mean, and escaping his past by running to New York. He's always in the café and he always orders the same thing-coffee. Black. Charlotte takes an instant disliking to Casper.
However, one night while Charlotte was walking home from work, a man grabs her and starts to drag her down an alleyway. As she struggles to escape, someone swoops in and saves her. What happens when Casper demands he has to be around Charlotte for her protection?
