When better and newer technology aids in a desperate war against two powers, those who govern seek for an advantage. Those who rule hold their hands on the switch to turn it all off, ready to sacrifice for victory. Neil and his family were there when it all went dark and, against all odds, have survived for years in the chaos that followed. Now that the world has changed, those who sought victory now seek to regain that which they have lost: power. Three basic rules have helped him and his Homestead survive: Stay near water. Don't trust anyone. And be in the walls before dark. When up from the chaos new threats arise, rules must be broken in order for Neil and those he cares about to survive. Because those in power are ready to turn the lights back on.

One simple rule: anyone trying to cross the bridge must die. A simple journey interrupted by the sudden failure of all electronics; stuck miles from the rest of the family; we struggled to even return home as society started to crumble around us. As it became clear that this more than a local problem and that no help was coming from outside, we retreated to the remote family farmhouse with relatives and trusted friends here we desperately tried to gather the food that we would need for the coming year. But as the world collapsed into starvation, anarchy and cannibalism, we began to understand the true price to be paid to ensure we were to be part of the five percent that might survive this apocalypse. That price might just be our own humanity.
