In 1889, when The United States purchased Oregon Country, two families, the Quinns and the Lancasters, settled a town they chose to call Mystic Falls on the American/Canadian border. Soon after founding the town, the two families began to fight over the origins of the town's history. The Lancaster Matriarch placed a curse on the Quinn family, that after so many generations, a set of twins would reveal the truth to the townspeople.
Now, in 2016 the fued continues on quietly as the families do their own separate work. The Lancasters have been the mayors for generations, and the Quinn's operate the library and the historical district of the city.
But this all changes when Stephanie Quinn goes missing.
Desperate to find her twin sister, Lauren Quinn teams up with Stephanie's best friend, Mary James, their next door neighbor, Katherine Morrison, and the daughter of her family's enemy, Gwen Lancaster. Together, they discover a world of mysteries that take them all the way back to the town's founding, as they work to find Stephanie and uncover the truth about Mystic Falls.
