Stoick the vast has already lost Valka to a dragon in one raid, he doesn't want that for Hiccup. Hiccup was sent to the forge ever since he was 6. However he never knew why.
One day he was out in the forest when a raid hit. The only thing he knew what to do was to run to Gobber at the forge. On his way he was stopped by something, a nightfury.

Complete!!! Hiccup was always a nuisance to the vikings on Berk. He was viewed as a runt, a shame, and a screw up. That all changed when he became the top of dragon training, and finally gets the chance everyone thought he only dreamed of. To kill a dragon in front of the entire village. Stoick was proud of his son, he had almost lost hope in him. Now, he proved everyone wrong, or so they thought. Hiccup wanted nothing more than to have this chance his entire life! However, that was before he met and bonded with Toothless, a night fury he had shot down weeks ago. Now, he wanted to escape, but not without attempting to convince the vikings that dragons weren't the real threat. He thought his monstrous nightmare match would be the perfect setting for such a feat. When things go sideways, when Toothless saves Hiccup, he has a choice, stay and try one last shot of convincing Berk, or flee with his best friend. He chooses the best option, he flees. Now, he is branded as a trator, a renegade. Stoick practically disowns him and he is never heard from again. five years later, Berk hears mighty tales of a grand hero who rides a night fury. Many call him 'Night Rider', 'Dragon Tamer', and 'Mysterious Rider'. Many doubted that this hero could be their traitorous ex heir to the Berkian leadership. After all, he was described as having a prosthetic leg, very tall, confident, and extremely buffed, while Hiccup was the opposite of all these descriptions. The name is given to those who won't survive their first winter. Those who don't belong, those who will not be any more than a burden. Hiccup isn't an exception to this. I mean, sure he survived his first winter, and the next fifteen. But he caused problems, not on purpose. Things just happened when he was around. First when he was six, and a nearby furnace blew up when he lost his temper. Then when he was eight, nine, eleven. These strange happenings kept occurring, and nothing he did helped. A Runaways Resolve, A Dragon Master's Legacy
You have likely seen it all before, Hiccup gets chosen to kill the Monstrous Nightmare but instead of staying to try and prove to his village dragons aren't the monsters they think they are, he leaves. Abandons the world he knows for a world of possibility, a world where he can be him, be free. What if he is one day discovered by a group of dragon riders and chose to join them as they had adventure after adventure. It would be a good life but of course it would never stay so happy, things would change sometimes for the better sometimes for worse. Old scars would surface, old lives reappear and new faces vanish, how would this affect him. Well shall we find out? I don't own the How To Train Your Dragon franchise of course and this is all done for fun. You know the legal stuff. I also don't own the image, I got it off of google as one could expect. For now the story isn't Mature though this may change in the future as I continue so I will make sure to change that if it becomes necessary, just an early warning just in case I break a guideline.
