Stoick the vast has already lost Valka to a dragon in one raid, he doesn't want that for Hiccup. Hiccup was sent to the forge ever since he was 6. However he never knew why.
One day he was out in the forest when a raid hit. The only thing he knew what to do was to run to Gobber at the forge. On his way he was stopped by something, a nightfury.

Two years later when Hiccup doesn't write back to Astrid and her letters start coming back to her she takes it upon herself to find him. What will happen when it Hiccup finds a new group of friends? The name is given to those who won't survive their first winter. Those who don't belong, those who will not be any more than a burden. Hiccup isn't an exception to this. I mean, sure he survived his first winter, and the next fifteen. But he caused problems, not on purpose. Things just happened when he was around. First when he was six, and a nearby furnace blew up when he lost his temper. Then when he was eight, nine, eleven. These strange happenings kept occurring, and nothing he did helped. Everything he did, everything he tried had some way of turning back on him. For the longest time he believe that the God's cursed him.
