In the land of Algaria there is 4 Holds. QueenFell (West), KingWood (East), WinterRock (North), and DragonReach (South). Each Hold has a Stand that rule over their Hold. All Stands rule under one king who lives in DragonReach with his family. The king has a Hand that is his assistant and his own court.
When the king dies from a mysterious illness, all holds spiral into chaos.
Katherina Spearheart, the only daughter of the Stand of QueenFell, is shipped over seas to a Female Mage school outside of DragonReach. When the king falls ill, the Hand begins to become suspicious of the sudden appearance of Katherina so close to the kingdom. So she is arrested for false charges.
Jacob Fireheart, a mercenary in training, finds a dragon egg outside of WinterRock. His mother finds it and tries to destroy it immediately. Only it kills her instead. Since Jacob was the only one there when his father is murdered, everyone assumes that it was him. Eventually, Jacob runs away south to prove his innocence and a cure to his sisters muteness
Alexander SkyKing is a genius. Along with her brother Gale and best friend Dante, are the smartest and most talented young mages in KingWood. But after word comes that the king has died, her father goes insane. After being forced into performing a mage's ultimate sin, she loses all her limbs and her brother. She saves Dante, by sealing him into a stuffed animal. She undergoes surgery and gets fake, robotic limbs to let her walk. She held off toward WinterRock to find answers to her father's madness.
Finn Yertear is a hand in training at DragonReach. His father is hand to the king and believes that the king didn't die from illness. His began snooping around the King's family only to almost be killed by a unknown man. When he overhears the prince's conversation with a shady figure his eyes are opened to the truth.
"This is a game of Mages. It doesn't matter who is in the way of your throne as long as it's yours."
