Dalane Neiu is a strong female soldier who serves as a guard for the castle in the kingdom of Kunin. The royal family is composed of a proud king who despises peasants, a foolish adopted prince, an arrogant seductive princess, and a demanding queen who always has her way. Respect for the family slowly crumbles, and when a sly man moves into the village with his younger brother, things turn chaotic. 
Phoenixes and dragons are seen more than ever, and death is assured for many residents of Kunin. Civil war is threatening to break out between the Four Villages and the castle, and Dalane is assigned to protect the royal family instead of her own. What will she do?
