Her job means everything to her and Vera's highest goal is to imprison the killer and to give the family peace. A detective is the voice of the dead and the tool of justice - there is nothing more important. Vera is certain that the best way to solve a problem is to do it on your own - she doesn't need any help from others. Is she a cold person? Maybe. Is she a honest person? Definately. Is she selfish? Never. However also ever since she investigated the case of Fiona - her feelings became numb, Vera became numb. Will she find happiness herself in this short story?

Forensic anthropologist Madeleine Carter has spent years uncovering the truth hidden in bones, but this time, the truth might just get her killed. She's a genius. A prodigy. Years ahead of her peers, with a mind sharp enough to pull secrets from the dead. Where others see fragments, she sees the full story. When her latest case makes her the target of an unknown enemy, the FBI assigns her a bodyguard. "Orlov" as they call him --a man whose past is as deadly as the threats against her. Orlov is silent, calculating, and entirely unreadable, and while he's meant to keep her safe, something about him feels just as dangerous as the forces working against her. ***** forensic anthropologist: Identification of the deceased. [she basically studies the bones] ***** "You know, for someone who spends so much time with the dead, you might want to learn how to tolerate the living" *****
