In 1888, a professor by the name of Simon James Woodland had this idea to create the perfect college in his hometown of South Carolina He knew it would take some time and a whole lot of money, but in the end he knew it was worth it.
Simon was born January 19th 1856 to Abigail and Max Woodland. Simon was the only child and grew up in a small one bedroom apartment. At the age of 10, Simon knew what he wanted to be when he grew up: a doctor. But i guess he was wrong about that. After his father died, Simon and his mother moved from a one bedroom to a two bedroom. Seeing how the doctors could not save his father, Simon could not bare seeing anyone else suffer.
In 1880, Simon lost his mother in a fire at their home. Eight years later, Simon had a teaching degree but no school to teach at. So, Simon gathered up his friends and ten years later the college was finally complete. On October 30th, Simon was not feeling the best after teaching his first class. Simon later died that night.
