After the plagues and the burning, after the War of Angels, in the harsh new climate of Earth, only the strong can survive.   Humanity is evolving to adapt, but not all due to the same reason, and that is a problem for those who want to have control.
Angel is on the run, hiding from the Republic and their Enhanced Soldiers who always seem just one step behind her.  She doesn't know who she really is, or the power she represents, and so she doesn't know why they want to capture her, only that it would be a catastrophe if they do.  
Dante is her mysterious protector, but what does he get for keeping her safe?  What is he hiding from her?  And who is he really?
What happens if the wrong people find her?  What happens if the right ones do?  Someone wants to make sure she never finds out.
