Wilsonville, Ohio might seem like just another rust-belt town, but there is more to this place than meets the eye. Nestled in the rolling hills along the Ohio River, at the farthest edge of Appalachia before it fades away into flat farmland and sprawling cities, it is a place of haunting beauty as well as unspeakable darkness. For Kacey Kindred, a lonely and sheltered sixteen-year-old, it is a place of happy childhood memories-- Christmas visits and family reunions in the tranquil countryside. In the summer of 1998, Wilsonville becomes a permanent home for Kacey, her mother, and two younger siblings. Still reeling from a tragic loss, they are taken in by kind, hard-working Aunt Peggy and her jovial good-ol'-boy husband, Travis. As soon as Kacey arrives, her rebellious cousin Krystal takes her under her wing and introduces her to her circle of friends-- reckless Dallas, passionate Jaymee and her brutal brother Shane, child-like Joni and the rowdy Starling family. Kacey is instantly and powerfully drawn to the youngest Starling brother-- the gentle but self-destructive Jesse. The new millennium ushers in a time of change and hardship for Kacey, her family and her friends as Wilsonville is hit hard by the epidemic of prescription painkiller abuse. After years scarred by loss, betrayal and heartbreak, one devastating event threatens to tear them all apart forever...

**This novel is a work in progress and I can't make any promises as to when it will be finished! So far I have been finishing a chapter about every two months or so, and I plan to continue to do so. I know that's pretty slow progress, but I'm doing the best I can while working 40+ hours a week and taking care of a family :) If you stick with me, I promise to keep updating and I thank you for your patience!**

When a white policeman shoots an unarmed black teenager, the faith and strength of two families are shaken and a Midwest inner city community struggles with all-too-familiar tensions. The city's lead investigator strives to control escalating protests, a middle school teacher tries to calm her frightened students, and a pastor sees a rare opportunity for his community's voice to be heard. The victim's friend feels the prison walls of gang and drug-related violence closing in, and the officer suffers under a burden of guilt and shame. But the heaviest decision falls on average-Joe hospital technician George Washington, who finds himself--gun in hand--face to face with the man who killed his son. Background: In 2014, I completed my first National Novel Writing Month challenge--in November, I wrote a novel with 50,000 words. I published the book, but never promoted it. No one wants to pay for something with no idea what they're going to get. So I'm going to post preview chapters. All my books are available on Amazon in both paperback and Kindle editions. What's this book about? When I first committed to writing a novel, I planned on doing one of my fantasy projects. But the death of Michael Brown in Ferguson and the resulting explosion of racial tensions dominated the news. What I saw online frustrated me. I knew that there was more to the story than any one side would likely present. Such complex issues aren't answered by sound bites and 140-character policy statements. I read up on aspects of culture I had no exposure to. I sought perspectives that wouldn't appear on my Facebook feed or regular web browsing. And I devoured some great books by Malcolm Gladwell that address human nature from an analytical angle using racial tensions and the civil rights movement as primary examples. I was amazed, moved, challenged, and inspired. And I knew that though I arguably have no right to say anything on the subject of racial tensions, I had to write this book.

Strands of your mind cling together like web to a slippery leaf bathed in the morning dew. You have seen both heaven and hell, witnessed the atrocities of war firsthand, and imagined a better life in the deepest, most intimate corners of your dreaming spirit. The wishes for peace and certainty you have once so desperately longed for, now lay trampled underneath the might of your mind's vivid horrors. What was once so bright and lively, now cowers in fear, clinging to gone memories like a shipwreck survivor to some lowly piece of driftwood. From the depths of hell, you arrived victorious, grasping the laurel wreath high above your head. Unrecognizable, with your empty eyes telling a story of innocence brutally taken away from the child curling in shame in the depths of your empty soul. Almost green you are, curly head, having grown up with a rifle by your bedside table, never knowing peace and quiet. Out of the pan that was the Kazdel Civil War and into the scorching flames of Lungmen, where life flows by on its own accord, here, you must learn to live once more. So put on your best facade, Let the reuniting trumpets ring a wild, And allow the city to swallow you whole. Here we are, a continuation of my previous work "Goodbye Curly Head", which sprawled into quite the epistle (but it wasn't really a letter, it's just long :P). Summarized in the most basic way possible, it's a story about a twenty-year-old Kazdel Civil War veteran who goes to Lungmen and has some troubles acclimating to the steady life presented before him. Sprinkle in a too-good-to-be-true offer and a freshly established logistics company, and you get Andy trying to make it big for as long as his deteriorating mental state lets him. I'd say it works as a standalone story for anyone who doesn't want to bother reading the first part. For now, at least. As always, please, pwwease leave a comment, positive, negative, I LOOOVE reading and replying to comments!!

Tyson Shelley is a very typical teenager: parties, girls, passionate about his garage band. Except he may have taken it too far. Whenever there's a party he's the first one with a drink in his hand, which would be all right, if he weren't popping pills as well. But what led him to this behavior in the first place? Perhaps it was his broken childhood, disturbed and interrupted by bouts of violence and loss? His missing mother, or his alcoholic father? Whatever it was, it's left him lost and without a purpose beyond getting trashed every Friday and Saturday night. Calla Stevenson however seems the exact opposite. The new girl in town with an average nuclear family and a little sister to be a role model for. She's never had the chance to act out, with the only truly obvious thing setting her apart is her taller than average height and her penchant for retro clothing. But then you look closer. The hairline cracks that have spread their way across her family have widened, and with her parents separating she blames herself for their unhappiness. In a new town, they were meant to start anew. But the change of scenery brings with it its own set of anxieties: a new school, new friends and the persistent daily struggle of dyslexia. Murwillumbah seems a sleepy enough town when Calla and her family moves in. But once she meets Tyson everything changes. She learns less about the cocky, guitar playing James Dean Rebel, and more about the gentle soul he is intent on destroying. Ecstasy is a story about opposites, and is told by two narrators. It reminds us that everyone has their own path but we can all walk in each other's shoes. Warning: this story may contain frequent us e of strong language, sexual scenes, and STRONG drug use. NOTE: I did write this many years ago when I was in like middle school or high school and I'm in college now. So there are errors every now and then. I did republish this recently and try to fix some errors every now and then.
