In every myth, there's a modicum of truth.

For four thousand years, creatus have concealed themselves from the humans who hunted them almost to extinction. Unwittingly, one creatus will endanger them all ...

As with most of his family, Derrick Ashton knows his future and what position he's destined to fill within his unique society. Everything changes, however, when he breaks one of his family's strictest laws and falls in love -- with a human.

In his quest to protect the woman he can never have, a twist of faith propels him into a new role that will cause dissension among his family and endanger the anonymity that they've spent thousands of years protecting.

Now, he will risk everything to save the girl from humans and his own kind. The one thing he can't save her from, however ... is herself.

The Creatus Series is not your normal paranormal story ... it's a realistic romantic mystery based on the myths you've heard your entire life. Prepare to believe.

Note: The events in Creatus (They Exist) start fourteen years prior to the events in Creatus - Book One. I highly recommend you read this novella before Creatus - Book One so you can get a look into the characters' lives leading up to the full story. Only the last chapter and first chapter overlap, and they are from a different point of view. Since it's a prequel, the current situation is resolved with a tiny cliffhanger so that the next stage of the Creatus Series can begin. Happy Reading!

At age ten, Clarice Stuart is rescued from a potentially traumatizing experience by a mysterious stranger who seems to appear out of nowhere and then disappear just as suddenly. Fifteen years later, on a cold November night on an icy mountain highway as Clarice is on her way to her parents' home for the holidays, a black clad rider on a black motorcycle deliberately strands her on the highway. While Clarice waits for help to arrive, miles away her parents and brother are brutally murdered in their home. At the funeral, a man approaches her and offers his condolences, claiming to be a friend of her brother's. Clarice has a sense of recognition but can't place where she might know him from. As a precaution, three deputies are assigned to watch over Clarice until it can be determined whether or not her family was a target or simply victims of a random attack. Staying at her deceased brother's home, Clarice soon learns that even police protection can't save her from the evil that took her family. When her family's attacker appears and kills the three deputies who were meant to guard her, Clarice is certain she will die as violently as her parents and brother. But standing face to face with the killer, she is shocked to be staring into the face of her recently dead and buried brother. Before he can take her life as well, the black rider appears and saves her from the fate of her family. It is then that she realizes that the black rider is the man from the cemetery - and her guardian from the past. Suddenly she finds herself and her guardian in a deadly, terrifying game of cat and mouse with a killer who won't stay dead. "You ungrateful bitch. I keep a roof over your head, and this is the thanks I get?" "You could have killed her," I retort, trying to muster up confidence that I don't possess. "What if she goes to the cops, Dad? That bruise on her face is enough to get you arrested and charged with assault." "What? You mean when she tripped over the mess you made in the kitchen?" His smile is so wicked that it chills me to my core. "She ain't going to the cops. Hell, she'll probably be back here tomorrow." "You're a bastard," I whisper, tears filling my eyes. "No wonder Mom left! She probably couldn't bear to spend another second with-" I'm pushed to the floor.
