When Peter gets a new job at Oscorp he has no idea that a couple days later Harry's father will die.
Harry has no idea that when he comes back to take his father's place he will get his old assistant, which just so happens to be his oldest friend.
Peter starts to get all the feelings back that he had locked away a long time ago. He had no idea that Harry could bring back all the memories of his high school crush.

Nothing particularly terrible has happened (yet), but every day he goes longer and longer without meaningful personal contact, he feels like he loses a part of himself.
