A sleepy village is terrorized by an unseen entity. A treaty is the only thing that keeps the village from being obliterated. Two young women are to be given as sacrifices in order to keep the village alive.

Gwen lives on the outskirts of the village in a house that her parents built. Despite the danger, she finds comfort in the woods that her home is built in. But it's no longer safe. No where is safe. People are watching, trying to find candidates for the sacrifice.

When Gwen is chosen, she refuses to back down and plans to find out what happened to her long lost brother as well as protect Emily who was chosen because she could not walk. Her bravery earns her, her life and favor with her captors.
