In a time of peace, the kingdom of Rosendor has never been more profitable, and its a time for its two most greatest protectors to unite: the kings knights and the vanguard.  Known are the knights as they fight for glory and riches and are loved by all as they protect the realm, but the vanguard has worked in the shadows for years and has done more than anyone knows to keep them all safe. When the kingdom is not facing war, its these two groups attempt to work together as their youth train and will soon graduate as the next generation of knights and rangers. 
Among these youth are two that are ahead of their peers. Marcella is a ranger of the vanguard that has hopes of being a leader in there is ever the need of war, while Jamie focuses on enjoying the peace and becoming a knight that lives a simple life. As these two are forced to work together they realize the differences in their positions and the importance each serves to their kingdom. 
A kingdom needs protectors, but will a long time of peace evolve into a generation not ready for a war?
