Iris Hansen is a musician and artist with chromesthesia going into her sophomore year of high school. To her, each pitch is a different color, as well as every voice she hears. Her best friend's is a blazing orange the color of the the dulling leaves of autumn. Her cousin's is the soothing green found in mint-chip ice cream. Her own is a lavender, like the edges of the sky at sunrise. When she joins the marching band, she meets Dorian Meyer, her drum major and first trumpeter in the school's jazz ensemble. It wasn't until that very moment that she had wanted to immerse herself in a world of blue: the same blue that was Dorian.
