Lucy Smith, better known as ‘Lu’, is actually Lupita Shanon, a descendent of the ancient royal family of the shapeshifters. A gang of excessumers from the Shadow World are sent to either recruit or dispose of her. In the points of view of both Lupita and Cocidius, the excessumer in chief of Lupita’s operation and who later uncovers the fact that he a Lupita are partners and are bound by an ancient, very powerful force. The stories of the other members of the Excessum and the founder are uncovered as are those of three runaway Shadow People.
