I’m sitting in class, waiting for the bell to ring. I’m in humanities and there’s about five minutes left. I allow myself to drift into a day dream, seeing nothing but bliss and happiness. I don’t notice the smile I have plastered on my face, at least not until my dream was interrupted.
“Excuse me, Ms. Nelson. Is something funny,” the humanities teacher asks. Everything comes to a halt, and the smile drains from my face.
“No, sir. I’m sorry,” I manage to mumble.
“Freak,” one classmate coughs, allowing everyone in the room to laugh. It’s just another typical day in my life.
Let me start from the beginning.
My name is Eli Nelson, at least that’s what I want to be called. My birth name is Kimberly. It just so happens that I got lucky enough to be born into the wrong body. As the rest of the world sees me as a female, I know in my heart and soul that I am a boy.
