"Captain?" Ezra was sitting at the controls, staring at the blinking message being displayed on the screen. "I need you in the control room," he switched off the intercom, and a few minutes later, Rizza walked in. 
"I was just checking to see if there were any logs from when we were in cryo and..." Ezra trailed off, glancing at the screen. 
"Where is it coming from?" Rizza asked, walking forward. 
"Planet T-52," Ezra replied, looking up at the blinking distress call.
"But I thought..."

Kale had been out taking his dog out for a final bathroom break before heading to bed when he saw it. A ball of light flashed brightly in the sky followed by a crashing sound only seconds later. It hadn't hit too far from his grandmother's house he was looking after for the weeks coming. He had taken the dog back inside and grabbed a hoodie from the coat rack. It wasn't strange for him to take late night walks when he was visiting. He headed toward where he was sure he'd find the meteor thinking it'd make a pretty cool decoration for his coffee table. As he walked toward it he couldn't help but notice how quiet the night had gotten. There wasn't even the usual crickets or frogs chirping. That was when he heard it. A guttural cry of something nearby, he wasn't sure if it was an animal at first but by the end of the sound, he was sure it was a man. He hurried his pace regretting having left his cell phone on the counter by the door. Hoping he wasn't going to find someone seriously injured or even dead. A current original work in progress an adventure inspired by Mass Effect and Star Trek (which will become more evident in later chapters) started out as a Black Panther fan fiction in the early stages but evolved into my own story before I started writing. At this rate of speed, I'll pass out when we get inside. Full forward defense shields. Full cockpit buffer. Zero shields anywhere else." She felt the slight pressure increase as the cockpit's internal anti bounce buffer engaged. "Full brake!" she screamed when the targeting meter flashed red, indicating an imminent impact. Collision alarms. Door. Light. Wall. Noise. Dark. Shit. Too fast.

Ezra thought his grades would get him posted to a place in the Navy that reflected his ability, something like First Fleet, the Raiding Nine, or even Home Guard. Humanity's enemy the Preshk where attacking more often and Ezra wanted to be contributing directly to the war effort. Instead he got put on a Scout ship with just one other soul and sent on a five month mission out into deep space. The mission quickly becomes more than the young commander could have ever expected and the fate of humanity lies in how fast he can return back to humanity. This short story is just over 18,000 words and contains sexual content between two men, so If that's not your cup of tea.. don't read :) This is my first attempt at something like this, so feedback is welcome, though be nice :)

But then her chief engineer, Danny Wycowski, falls head over heels for Tom Twig, a brilliant med student and the sweetest twink in the galaxy. The Dodo's crew soon find themselves doing battle with zombies, dragons, killer guinea pigs, and a mysterious cult leader calling himself Herne.
