For thirteen year old Riley Brown, summer vacation would have been perfect. It would have been everything she had ever hoped for, if not for her parents forcing her and her two other siblings (who she has a dysfunctional relationship with) to visit their great grandmother who she barely even knows and spend the rest of the summer in her very old, and very peculiar mansion in the sleepy town of Black Springs, North Carolina.
  
As Riley struggles to adjust to her new surroundings, she also begins to suspect something eerily wrong with her great grandmother. Bizarre things begin to mysteriously happen around the household, and Riley becomes determined to uncover the secrets of the mansion. However, along the way she unwittingly initiates an ancient evil to be released and spread horror to the world.
