"She seemed to be void; all empty. But that wasn't the truth. The sober truth behind this masterpiece was all celestial mystery. She was made up of stardust, and every time she parted her lips to smile, the entire town lit up. All the stars in her soul twinkled and the lust in her eyes winkled. How beauty lied within her soul could make anyone lose their mind. Her fragrance, it was like a field of daisies that swayed with the wind. She was was basically what they call 'aesthetic', but it was sad to know that not everyone noticed that. Not everyone understood her. Because she was art. She was art that no one ever understood. And once they will, the universe will collapse. Find the beauty in her soul and the stars will stop twinkling, the wind will stop blowing, the water will stop flowing, the sun will stop shining and two new souls will be created, only for each other; they'll be called 'soulmates'." said Lord.

The Enchantress spoke, "Until you learn to love another and earn their love in return, only then will the spell upon you be broken. If you cannot, you will remain a beast for all eternity. Remember this, only love can thaw a frozen heart." Repulsed by his haggard appearance he fled from the sight of the enchantress and back to the castle. Where he confined himself to ruling from the shadows, just like his father. That was the year where winter did not leave. The winds grew stronger, bringing more and more bitter cold air with them. The kingdom grew weak. There was little food and the people were starting to lose hope. Then, one day a letter arrived at every home in the kingdom: there was to be a ball held at the palace. Everyone was invited, and everyone went. The time spent in the palace was grand. That was until one of the guests went missing. A young woman was escorted from the ballroom and was never seen again. Spring returned for a short time, and then winter crashed back down upon the land. And another ball was held. People were skeptical and did not want to attend, but they had no choice. Yet another guest went missing, another woman. The parties continued annually. Everyone in the kingdom was forced to go and every year, another person was escorted away. Most years it was a woman, one year it was a man. It has been six years since the beginning and winter is coming, after yet another short spring. It is time for another masquerade.

This story was previously known as "The Awakening". ~*~ "One... two... three... one... two... three... a million... is that number right?" A figure less voice echoed. "Hello? Who's there?" Caliope asked, focusing on that voice. "One... two... who? A million... a billion... no, it's more... a legion..." Silence. She had seen too many horror movies and heard too many stories about that single word to overpass its meaning. The voice went quiet, yet she was still unable to see where it came from. She rubbed her eyes and all she could see around her was a thick path in a jungle-like scene. She didn't remember how she got there, but she knew it was for something important. Her eyes focused on the far end of the path and all she could see were more trees. She turned to the opposite side and found just the same. "One... two... billions... but always back at one..." the voice resumed it's counting. "Where are you? Who are you?" ~*~ -Her name is Caliope, and when she was a young girl, she never believed in happy endings. For her, there was nothing more than what you see in front of you. All she needed was her best friend Vanessa. Her background is very simple; a foster child with foster parents that were everything but warm and caring. Regardless of that, she became a smart and responsible young woman, ready for whatever came her way. At least that is what she thought. Her new job interview changed her life. It changed everything she ever believed in, and what she thought it was real. Her new boss is an amazing woman who has a son, something different from what he is made out to be. As she discovers the hidden truth about her boss and her son, she has to prepare herself for a whole new world that will unfold to her. ~*~ Intro collaboration with my loyal reader @GabrielleCarden Original Picture from the cover made by Marcus J.
