The Legend of Keenan and Bevis

Percival, an Independent, and Fordicai, a Dependent, have been best friends since their first year on Everblind, the oldest ship to orbit the Milky Way galaxy, where their motto is God, Gold, and Glory. As their sixteenth Naming ceremony nears, Fordicai takes interest in a male transfer from Port Grey, one of the last human settlements on Earth, named Dixon. When their nurse Miss Ea tells of a prophecy in which the two men who are given the names Keenan and Bevis at their sixteenth are destined to be the first to marry after millions of loveless years, Fordicai's heart tells him that Dixon is the Keenan to his Bevis. Let's just say fate has other plans.
