In a society where morals are determined by a public opinion system, and social rating is the currency, truth can be a dangerous notion.

Sixteen-year-old Rena has few memories of her childhood before adoption. The voice of the man who raised her. A forest teeming with wildlife. Mountains reaching up to a blue sky. The problem-they're not real. Such things don't exist in Esh, a self-governed metropolis shielded from the harsh environment by a transparent canopy. And beyond the city lie only the Barrens, an endless wasteland of fog and freezing rain.

When Rena's violent instincts save the lives of her friends, her delusional past begins disrupting her prospects for the future. To find the source of her impulses, she'll have to sort through the fragments in her mind. What awaits is a connection between her true identity, the city's forgotten history, and the secret war being waged beneath the surface of her polite society.

Six teenagers. Genetically engineered. Organically weaponized. Publicly declared heroes, and privately ticking time bombs. The walking-talking equivalent of a biohazard weapon. The kind that reeks of sweat and streetlights and the unindominatable human spirit. The kind they wished they knew how to break. You see, they weren't born. Because life isn't as easy as crawling out of a womb anymore, with blood and serum and the warm exhale of a mother's love. No, it was far 'easier' than that. They were built - piece by piece, chemical after chemical, atom to atom - where scientists preferred fighting on which new type of atomic ray to experiment with next rather than the freaking Geneva Convention. Because, inside Helix Labs, lay the wasteland of glass and live wires and the unmistakable smell of a brand new, bioweapon. Was that a newborn cursed with a modified brain, heart, or muscle? Or did they prefer kidney, lungs or bone? No. Why? Because they weren't born...they were crafted, congealed, and set on a path of righteous fury. They were never given a choice, only the cold looming shadow of a power far greater than them when they decided to condemn the evolutionary design and man handled into existence their own path of 'heroism'. Now, these walking anomalies patrol the glass and grime skyline of Haem city, a place where chrome and corruption reek havoc side by side. Where sin and silicon are separated by a gap of letters and not materialistic gain. The mutagens call themselves saviours, the Authority calls them property and the villains refer to them as misguided. They were made to serve humanity, when they were never humans themselves. Welcome to the future, it's much colder than you think.

Now that the trial has been put to rest, Rueben believes that life is on an upward trend. It's not long before he understands he is sadly mistaken. Around every corner lies a new demon lurking with the desire to rip the rug out from under him. He makes the decision to team up with a secondary squad, but in the end, he wonder it's worth. Will dragging more people he cares about into the fight to save his best friend be beneficial?-or detrimental? The answer remains unknown. Without realizing it, more enemies have accumulated in his temporary departure from mafia business. Some seek vengeance in a faceless nature, while others are those he wouldn't dare believe would hurt him. Constantly stricken with the fear that his friends and family will receive the same fate as his sister, the fight to earn their freedom grows ever present. ☽ ☾ Mason feels as if his personal life is becoming what he's always wished for; he found someone that not only lights the fire in his body, but keeps it burning. However, not all things that start well, end well. Kai has a new person in his life and he's stealing all his time. The once open communication turns into broken boundaries. As the two of them slip into the shadows, acting in unison, Mason slowly gets shoved into the dark. And now the question remains: will everything he fears become reality? Everyone finds themselves battling for something. Love. Lust. Desire. Greed. Revenge. They've all got a motive. Only problem is-someone has to take the heat for it. ⤷ ᴍᴜʟᴛɪᴘʟᴇ ᴍᴄꜱ ꜱᴇqᴜᴇʟ ᴛᴏ ᴇɴᴛɪʀᴇʟʏ ʏᴏᴜʀꜱ ⤷ ✩ 350, 817 ᴡᴏʀᴅꜱ © COPYRIGHT MARELIZXX

**CURRENTLY A FEATURED STORY** highest ranking: #11 in Science fiction ❝true happiness is only achieved without freedom. There is a girl who wakes to a world that she was supposed to protect. Instead, she fights it. There is a man who is cursed with the ability to dream. A glass city is their cage, a city filled to the brim with unanimity and order, a paradise on an earth laid to waste by an artificial snowstorm. Sunlight filters through the glass buildings and through glass walls, pierces glass floors. It illuminates the city square when it is strongest at noon, surrounded by a huddled mass of citizens, all as perfect as the city they inhabit. And they all think: everything is as it should be. And it is. Or, it was. -- long live perfection.❞ (c)sarahgaier2016 #diverselit | #LoveEqualsLove | #helpfightcliches | #freethelgbtq | #badassreads check out my Science Fiction novella, Sector-33, here! https://www.wattpad.com/story/62174094-sector-33
